Terms of Service
Last updated 24 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and EngBlock (“we”, “us”), which runs WebToSpeech. By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use WebToSpeech.
The service
WebToSpeech turns web pages and PDFs into audio. You give it a link, it takes the main text from the page, and a synthetic voice reads that text aloud. You can edit the script and choose who reads it in the composer, and you can play, download or share the result. The browser extension is a shortcut that sends the page you are on to WebToSpeech.
Your account
- You need to be at least 16 to use WebToSpeech.
- Give us an email address you can receive mail at, and confirm it when asked.
- Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what is done through your account.
- An account is for one person. Please do not share it or resell access to it.
- Tell us straight away if you think someone else has got into your account.
Plans and payment
Reading pages aloud requires the subscription on the pricing page. Prices are in US dollars and include any tax we are required to charge. Payments are handled by Stripe, and a charge may appear on your statement as WEBTOSPEECH or ENGBLOCK SERVICES.
Hosted subscription
- The subscription is billed monthly in advance and renews automatically until you cancel it.
- It includes up to 100 hours of audio each calendar month. Unused hours do not carry over.
- You can cancel at any time under Billing in your settings. You keep the subscription until the end of the month you have paid for, and you are not charged again.
- If a payment fails, hosted reading may be paused until it goes through.
- If we change the price, we will email you at least 30 days before your next renewal so that you can cancel first.
Refunds are covered by our refund policy, which forms part of these terms.
What you ask us to read
You choose the pages, so you are responsible for them and for what you do with the audio. Many pages are protected by copyright. Listening to a page yourself is one thing; publishing or sharing a recording of someone else’s work is another, and you should only do it if you have the right to.
Please do not use WebToSpeech to:
- break the law, or infringe anyone’s copyright or other rights;
- produce audio that is meant to deceive, harass or harm, or that passes off a synthetic voice as a real person saying something they did not say;
- generate audio in bulk by script, or on behalf of other people, beyond one person’s ordinary use;
- probe, overload or interfere with the service, or get around its limits;
- submit a PDF, or have a script directed, in a way Google’s Gemini API terms and usage policies forbid, since we send those to Google.
We limit how often pages can be requested. We may remove a recording or suspend an account that breaks these rules, and where it is reasonable we will warn you first.
If you believe a recording infringes your rights, email [email protected] with its link and we will look into it promptly.
Sharing
Every recording has a link, and anyone who has the link can listen to it and download it. Our privacy policy explains what that link reveals and how we handle your information.
The audio is generated by AI
The voices are synthetic and the text is extracted automatically. A recording may mispronounce words, or skip or misread part of a page. PDFs are transcribed by an AI model and may contain mistakes. Do not rely on a recording where accuracy matters; check the original.
Who owns what
The WebToSpeech website, software and name belong to us. You are welcome to use them as these terms allow, for as long as you have an account.
We claim no ownership of the pages you submit or of the audio made from them. As far as we are concerned the recordings are yours to use, subject to the rights of whoever wrote the original page.
Changes and availability
We work to keep WebToSpeech available, but we depend on other companies’ services and cannot promise it will never be interrupted. We may add, change or remove features. If we remove something you have paid for, or close the service, we will give you at least 30 days’ notice and refund any period you have paid for and cannot use.
Ending your account
You can delete your account in your settings at any time. If you have a subscription, cancel it first: deleting your account does not cancel it for you.
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. If we close an account for any other reason, we will refund any period you have paid for and cannot use.
Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law, or under consumer protection laws where you live, that cannot be excluded by agreement. That includes the guarantee that services will be provided with due care and skill.
Beyond those rights, and as far as the law allows:
- the service is provided as it is, without any promise that it will meet a particular need or be free of errors;
- we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost profits or lost data;
- our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of Victoria, Australia, and its courts have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, this does not take away protections your own country’s law gives you.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When a change matters, we will email you at least 14 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree with a change you can cancel and delete your account before then; continuing to use WebToSpeech afterwards means you accept it.
